| Professor Amitab Mattoo meets Prime Minister | | VC briefs PM about the education and socio economic scenario in JK | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 26 Prof. Amitabh Mattoo , Vice Chancellor University of Jammu on Friday evening called on Hon'ble Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh at Raj Bhawan to discuss the educational Scenario in the country espec ially with reference to Jammu and Kashmir state. The meeting which lasted for nearly half an hour, the Hon'ble Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh assured that Center will provide full support to the state Govt. in its endevour to increase the accessibility and quality of education to build the capabilities of the youth of Jammu and Kashmir to meet the challenges of 21 century. The issue of cooperation in educational sector with the neighboring countries was also discussed in detail. The Prime Minister expressed hope that through interventions in higher education and establishment of new institutions and Universities, Jammu and Kashmir shall emerge into knowledge economy. During the 30 meeting, the Vice Chancellor Prof. Amitabh Mattoo briefed the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh about the education and socio economic scenario in Jammu and Kashmir and plans to promote knowledge creation through higher education and its application in various sectors ranging from "Agriculture to Tourism" to usher the state of Jammu and Kashmir into an era of peace and prosperity . The Vice Chancellor also informed the Prime Minister about his recent meeting with Afghan president Hamid Kaezia in Kabul last week. It is pertinent to mention here that during meeting with Prof. Amitabh Mattoo, Afghan President Hamid Karzia had invited Indian Universities to setup their off-side campuses in Afghanistan. |
