| Lecture on “Methodology and predictions in Indian Elections” held | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 26 The J&K Regional Branch of the IndianInstitute of Public Administration organized a lecture on “Methodology and predictions in Indian Elections” In the Conference Hall of the IIPA J&K Regional Branch building, Jammu. The lecture as delivered by Dr O.P.Goyal, former Dean, Department of Social Sciences, SD University, Rohtak. The speaker apprised the audience of the forces that play pivotal role in success in elections. These include, he asserted, the money the muscle power, the caste based vote etc. He indicated that the Indian system of elections is far better than the one that exists in America. The speaker deliberated upon the methodology of exit polls and pre-poll surveys and analysis and clarified that these analysis are not always perfect and dependable. The lecture was followed by a series of queries by the elite audience that included members of the IIPA, academicians, senior officers from the administration, journalists, scholars from the department of political science and media persons. B.R.Sharma, IAS Chief Electoral Officer, Jammu and Kashmir, who was the Chief Guest on this occasion informed that it is not only the administration that can play the role in smooth and positive election process but the public has to act as an important entity. Dr Ashok Bhan, Hony Secretary of the IIPA J&K Regional Branch initiated the proceedings. Prof Kulwant Kour, Head Department of Political Sciences, University of Jammu, welcomed the guests and introduced the speaker. Prof S.K.Sharma, Joint Director (Seminars), IIPA presented a vote of thanks. |
