| PM’s announcement of measures vindicates our stand" Mehbooba | | PDP welcomes J&K specific CBMs, | | Early Times Reporter Tapparpathan | Apr 26 Welcoming the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh's announcement about the implementation of the Working Groups recommendations, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti today said that Prime Minister's decision's on the soil of Kashmir vindicates that PDP's stand vis-à-vis the socio-economic and political dimensions of Kashmir are pragmatic and people friendly. Addressing an impressive gathering at Tapper-Pattan in Baramulla district, Mufti observed that the rehabilitation of families of militants was a big problem, which, when raised by PDP was not only criticized but the elements with vested interests would label her party as an accomplice of militants involved in propagating anti-national agenda. The PDP president said that Prime Minister's announcement about a cluster of measures including rehabilitation of militancy affected people which includes, settlement package for Kashmiri migrants, compassionate appointments, monthly pension payable to widows under the scheme of Rehabilitation Council of J&K, assistance to orphans which would now cover all such children without discrimination, has opened the eyes of critics of PDP's polices. The PDP President remarked that her party hopes that the working group recommendations on return of youth from across the border, compensation of Indus Water Treaty (IWT) which includes increase in royalty or transfer of power house to the state and a movement forward on Centre-State relationship in which her party had proposed establishment of a regional council would be implemented very soon. She added that the proposed significant Confidence Building Measures, announced by Dr Singh, including facilitating easier and more frequent travel and trade through Srinagar-Muzafarabad and Poonch-Rawalakote roads, opening of Kargil-Skardu and Suchetgarh-Sialkote roads, opening of passport offices, rehabilitation of the victims of violence-irrespective of their affiliation and relief measures for border migrants and refugees are going to boost the peace and reconciliation process. She added that it was the polices of the PDP which prompted Dr Singh who said that all the developments were a pointer towards improving Indo-Pak relations, and India and Pakistan have realized that misunderstandings should be removed through mutual dialogue. Ms Mufti said whether in or out of power, her party believes in the strength of democracy and resolving issues through dialogue and while being a part of the Coalition Government and the UPA, it brought delicate issues of troop reduction, scrapping of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and cross-LoC political initiatives like regional council and dual currency at the center stage.. She said these issues now constitute the basis of discourse on Kashmir and progress on these can lead to ultimate resolution of the problem. PDP senior vice president Molvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari and party general secretary Nizam-u-Din Bhat also addressed the meeting |
