| Haji declares open Swimming pool for the season | | Sports Minister inspects facilities for indoor games | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | Apr 26 Though not fully filled due to inadequate supply of water, yet the Swimming pool at the MA Stadium was declared open by the J&K State Sports Council for the season here today. Accompanied by the Minister for Health and Medical Education, Mangat Ram Sharma, Minister for Sports, Haji Nissar Ali formally inaugurated the mechanical section of the Swimming Pool, including the filtration plant amidst claps from the hosts of members J&K State Sports Council and officials of the Sports Council. Minister witnessed the swimmers from different age groups, including the female trainees, taking a dip in the waters of swimming pool to give a live demonstration. When asked by SAN reporter about the lack of basic facilities including the learners’ pool and life saving equipments, especially those required to train the fresher, Minister virtually fails to give a convincing reply. He simply said that Government is looking into drafting a comprehensive project report to revamp the existing sports infrastructure in the state. Ignoring the fact that just a few months have left with the present coalition government to expire its term in office, the Minister said, “The report when ready, would be submitted with the Centre to seek a special financial assistance worth Rs 12 crore from under Prime Minister package.” However, the Minister mentioned that to make the swimming pool functional round the year with all the facilities, at least Rs two crore required immediately. In the meantime, pleading the case of only coach at the swimming pool working on contractual basis, a middle aged swimmer requested the Sports Minister for his regularization. The Minister assured of a favourable decision in this regard soon. Meanwhile, for the first time during his stint as Cabinet Minister and second term as Minister for Sports, Haji Nissar Ali had a comprehensive round of the entire indoor games sports complex and areas around it, including the Billiards, Weightlifting and Wrestling halls. At Wrestling Hall, the Minister on the request of general secretary J&K Wrestling Association and international wrestler, Dushyant Sharma issued directions to the Council officials to initiate required maintenance. Earlier, the Minister paid a visit to the GGM Science College to look into the preparations on ground for the Santosh Trophy football tournament starting from May 25. |
