| Workshop to prevent drug use held | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 26 A workshop to prevent ‘Alcohol-Tobacco and drug use’ amongst the adolescents was organized by the International Association for Human Values and the Art of Living. The workshop held at the Abhinav theatre here was among others attended by principals of schools, educationists, NGO’s doctors and those connected with youth affairs and sports. Minister for Technical Education and Youth Services, Haji Nissazr Ali was the chief guest at the workshop. Discussing the scope of the program Sanjiv Kakar said IAHV and Art of Living have been doing community mobilization across the country including sustained work in Anantnag district. He said the foundation is also holding workshops across the country to prevent youth from becoming addicts. ‘The youth programs of Art of Living with powerful techniques of breath and meditation are the best insurance policy against addiction’ Kakar said and urged schools to introduce this program which brings up awareness in youth and remove stress. Roma Wani Chairperson of the IAHV de-addiction program in Jammu and Kashmir spoke on the unique role of NGO’s in drug prevention. Speaking at the workshop the Minister congratulated the IAHV J&K Chapter for taking the initiative and organizing the one day workshop and hoped that the IAHV should plan 2-3 days seminar in Srinagar during this summer. Earlier, the Secretary Technical Education Khazir Mohammed Wani spoke on the role of educational institutions in prevention of drug abuse among adolescents. The second session of the workshop was exclusively devoted to the sensitization of the participants from the education and health departments. Dr. N Kaw spoke on the concept of drug abuse while Dr Anju Dhawan gave an over view of the magnitude and issues related to prevention of drug abuse. Deepak Yadav explained the role of counselors and teachers. |
