| Congress splits face before PM | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 26 The Jammu and Kashmir unit of Congress is known for organizational disarray but it was never known that the one-upmanship was so deep. While the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad was busy with the Prime Minister, the rest of the Congress indulged in lobbyism instead of putting a united face before the Prime Minister. While some party leaders asserted their independent identities before the Prime Minister others tried to do so but ended in humiliation. It was one party but three delegations were drawn from it who met the Prime Minister. The party leaders could have reflected an example of organizational discipline if all of them had met the Prime Minister under single leadership –may under Chief Minister Azad or PCC Chief Saif-ud-Din Soz. However, they played it differently. There were three delegations each led by Soz, Chowdhary Lal Singh and Dharam Paul Sharma. Obviously they presented before the Prime Minister different sets of issues. Party veteran and Health Minister Mangat Ram Sharma was completely missing from the scene. Many still, including top Ministers, had to return disappointed from the gate of the Raj Bhawan as they were not allowed entry. The security staff’s refusal to allow these leaders entry into the Raj Bhawan smacked of worst organizational disarray in the party as it was either the Chief Minister or the PCC Chief who would have finalized the list of leaders meeting the Prime Minister. Among the senior party leaders who had to return disappointed from the Raj Bhawan were Health Minister, Mangat Ram Sharma, Consumer Affairs Minister, Taj Mohiuddin, Ministers of State Gharu Ram, and Dr Romesh Sharma. While Mangat and other senior leader returned fuming, the CAPD Minister Taj Mohiuddin picked up a fight with the Jammu Deputy Commissioner for not allowing him inside. However, the Deputy Commissioner expressed his inability citing the orders from above. |
