| Azad brings succor to orphans, widows: Vakil | | ‘PM’s package extends equal benefits to all militancy rendered orphans' | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | Apr 28 Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad's efforts for faster rehabilitation of militancy hit families and to provide necessary succor to the next of kin of violence victims have met with success resulting in gainful benefits to the militancy victims This issue has been addressed in the Prime Minister's package announced on April 25, 2008 at Akhnoor. This was stated by Minister for Social Welfare and Senior Vice President JKPCCI Abdul Gani Vakil here today. He was explaining salient features of the package with special reference to the strengthening of Jammu and Kashmir State Rehabilitation Council's efforts for welfare and rehabilitation of militancy rendered widows and orphans. Vakil said thousand of cases under SRO-43 were pending decisions at various levels for cumbersome procedures and limited availability of Class-IV vacancies. Azad has advocated the issue with Prime Minister urging for special dispensation to address this issue, Vakil said and added that Prime Minister in consonance with Azad's proposal announced Rs. 5 lakh one time special dispensation to the next of kin of militancy victims in his package. This measure would not delay in providing succor to the family but ensure hassle free relief to it, he maintained. He said yet another important provision of the package ensures benefits to all militancy rendered orphans irrespective of any discrimination on the basis of orphan being ward of a killed militant. He said the increase in the honorarium of widows from Rs. 500 to Rs. 750 per month announced in the package would give fillip to the efforts of Jammu and Kashmir State Rehabilitation Council to provide immediate relief and necessary help to the widows. Vakil said militancy has inflicted greater loss to the state economy and rendered thousands orphans and widows. The need of the hour was to pull thousands of militancy sufferers out of depression and distress and help their faster rehabilitation, he said, adding that Mr. Azad's efforts in this regard have yielded excellent results in favour of the needy and poor category of society. |
