| Trials begin for Day-Boarding scheme | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 28 Under the banner of Sports Authority of India (SAI), three-day trails in three different events of football, basketball and volleyball for Day-Boarding scheme started today at different venues, here. While the process of picking up the talented boys and girls in basketball started at the University of Jammu under the guidance of experts from the SAI, the boys in volleyball underwent screening at Pallawan in Akhnoor. “At least 79 boys turned up for football trials in football while 30 boys and 10 girls were there in basketball at University of Jammu grounds. Simultaneously, the trails started at Pallanwala for Day-Boarding scheme in Volleyball, where 40 boys have expressed their desire to join the scheme,” Assistant Director Sports Training Centre (STC) Udhampur and incharge trails, B S Tirthi told Sports & Allied News. All the interested boys and girls first submitted their documents and then underwent Motor Ability Tests. “The second day of the trials i.e. tomorrow, five different skill tests will be conducted on the players registered today,” SAI Coordinator in J&K, Mohinder Verma said. The team appointed to conduct the football trials is comprised of Mohinder Verma, Satish Sharma and Prem Singh whereas in basketball, Chander from Sonepat, Amarjeet Singh, Aman Sharma and Rajinder Magotra are there in the team. The volleyball trials are being held under the supervision of Gurmesh from Kurukshetra in Haryana, Rajeev Dogra and Parminder Singh. Meanwhile, Regional Director (North), S S Roy will be joining the trails on the third day on April 30. |
