Sensing the presence of the militants in the house the operation parties successfully rescued the civilians by the early hours of April 28. 2008. The militants have been identified Zahoor Ahmad Waza @ Zee Shan, Financial Chief of HM outfit s/o Ghulam Nabi R/O Palhalan Pattan and Mohammad Yousuf Bhat @ Muneer of HM outfit S/O Abdul Samad R/O Nihalpora Pattan. Moreover, one house in which militants were hiding got damaged, he added. Waza was appointed Financial Chief after the death of Hanief Khan in an encounter in Tral.

Both the slain militants had been operating in the area of Pattan for the past eight years and had also been recruiting local cadres. At least six of such cadres were arrested with lot of recoveries being affected from them in the month of March, 2008. The operation was conducted with the assistance from 45Bn CRPF and 29 RR.
Known to be an expert in fabrication of remote as well as cell phone IEDs, Zahoor Waza along with Mohd Yousuf @ Munir was involved in the killing of two civilians namely Mehraj-ud-din Rather, S/o Assadullah Rather, R/o Archander Hama Tehsil Beerwah on February 27, 2007 and Moyees Ahmad Ganie @ Muzaffar S/o Mohd Akbar Ganie R/o Chanderhama on December 04, 2007. The involvement of Zahoor Waza was also established in the killing of Sajad Ahmad Mir, S/o Ab. Gani Mir, R/o Andergam Pattan on January 07, 2007 and the case has been challaned. Zahoor Waza @ Zeeshan was also closely associated with Tajam-ul-Islam, Divisional Commander Central Kashmir who was recently arrested by Baramulla Police and Tanveer Ahmad Zargar, HM Commander of Baramulla who was recently neutralized in Baramulla town. While Zeeshan and Tajam-ul-Islam carried the expertise of fabricating explosive devices and made them available to Tanveer Ahmad Zargar @ Tana, the later had carried out the IED blasts in Sopore and Baramulla towns in the past two years.
With the neutralization of these two militants today and the busting of the HMK module in Pattan in February 2008, besides the killing of two more HM commanders namely Zahoor Ahmad Ganie in Palhalan Pattan and also the arrest of at least four more militants of HM outfit in Pattan, the HM has suffered immensely in Pattan area.
