In a tragic road accident, caused due to negligence of driver of a private school bus of Presentation Convent School, 18 school children were injured, two of them critically on circular road near Peer kho temple on Monday morning in Jammu.
The driver of the mini bus in which the school children were traveling lost balance and failed to control the vehicle as it skidded off the road near Peer kho temple on the circular road.
The mini bus rolled down over 70 feet deep hill. Eyewitness reports said, the driver of the bus made an attempt to start the bus in reverse direction and suddenly lost control pushing the bus deep down the hill near Peer kho steps.
School children injured in the accident raised hue and cry and alerted morning walkers in the vicinity. Soon after police teams from nearby police station and local residents reached the spot and shifted the injured to the government medical college, Jammu.Large number of parents also rushed to the medical college to inquire about the well being of school children.
Representatives of school management also reached the medical college to take care of school children.
Condition of two school children is stated to be critical while others admitted in the emergency/recovery ward were kept under observation.
Parents of the school children were not happy with the management of the Presentation convent school.Parents alleged that the school authorities were charging hefty transport fees and in return were not delivering the services.
"We send our school children to convent school for better prospects and expect them to take care of security of the school children. It is shocking that the school authorities instead of hiring best fleet have entrusted the job of transporting school children in private buses and minibuses driven by untrained drivers" angry parents said.
The parents alleged that most of the buses deployed by Convent school have outlived their utility and fall in the rickety fleet category yet efforts are not being made to improve the transport infrastructure keeping in view security of the school going children.
