| Separatists continue to be averse to participating in election | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 29 Kashmiri separatists continue to be averse to taking part in the Assembly election on the ground that elections were not going to settle the Kashmir issue. A senior APHC leader Prof. Abdul Gani Bhat said “we need not test our strength by contesting the election”adding that for resuming the suspended dialogue “with us it is not necessary for us to first participate in the elections.” He said that Mahatma Gandhi had never contested any election yet was involved in talks by the British Government because the Britishers had rightly believed that Gandhi was peoples’representative. Prof. Bhat said that during the last over 50 years series of elections were held in Jammu and Kashmir still the dispute could not be resolved.Asked whether the separatists felt dismayed over the way Prime Minister.Dr Manmohan Singh, remained silent, during his recent tw0pday visit to Jammu,on the issue of resumption of the dialogue with APHC leaders Prof. Bhat said “there is no question of feeling dismayed.” He said “let the centre not resume the dialogue process right now.It has to do it.It will be better and in the interest of peace and normalcy if the Prime Minister resumed the dialogue sooner than later.” He said “there can be no escape route as far as the dialogue process is concerned. He added that India has alreadu initiated bilateral dialogue with Pakistan but our involvement in the talks is mandatory.””He said “it will be mistake if the centre thought that it has won and others have lost. There is nothing like losing or winning. Another senior APHC leader Shabir Ahmed Shah refused to comment on the Prime Minister’s silence on the resumption of talks. He simply said “we cannot force the centre to resume the dialogue. ”He,however, stated that the question of “our taking part in the elections does not arise at all.” ”We are for resolving the Kashmir issue through sustained dialogue and elections are no solution to the dispute on Kashmir, he added. |
