| ‘Negligent’ driver gets three year imprisonment | | | Early Times Reporter Reasi | Apr 29 Judicial Magistrate Reasi Mr. Sudesh Sharma after 11 years of trial today convicted and awarded three years imprisonment and a fine of Rs.3500 to Suneet Singh r/o Bhagta Tehsil & District Reasi driver of Bus which met with accident on March 23, 1997 while going from Jammu to Dharmari in which 17 persons e died and 16 were injured due to the negligent and rash driving. Judicial Magistrate after hearing PO Arvind Rathore and Sr. PO Rajesh Bakshi appearing for the prosecution and counsel for the accused observed that prosecution has established the case against the accused driver Suneet Singh for causing death of 17 persons and injuries to 16 persons due to rash and negligent driving of the accused. As such the accused is convicted and sentenced u/s 304-A for a period of 2 years and fine Rs 2000, accused also convicted and sentenced 6 months u/s 338 RPC and fine Rs 500, the accused convicted and sentenced u/s 337 RPC for a period of 3 months and fine Rs 500, accused also convicted and sentenced for a period of 3 months and fine Rs 500 u/s 279 RPC. Court clarified that all the sentences shall run concurrently. JNF |
