| State Sport Climbing meet from May 3 | | | Early Times Reporter

Organised by the Mountaineering Association of Jammu and Kashmir in collaboration with MNDP School, R S Pura, the 8th State Sport Climbing Championship will be held from May three. About 300 climbers from different districts of the state are likely to vie for the honours in the championship.
The championship shall be inaugurated by the president of Mountaineering Association, B R Sharma, Chief Electoral Officer, J&K. However, preliminary rounds of certain categories for some selected schools shall be conducted a day earlier i.e. on May two.
“The completion shall be held on the 40 ft high and 12 ft wide pre-fabricated artificial climbing wall in the MNDP School complex as per international rules and regulations,” general secretary of the Association Dr C K Khajuria told SAN. He added that participants in the sub-junior categories shall climb with `top rope’ in the preliminary rounds and `lead climb’ in the subsequent rounds.
The competitions shall be held in five categories of sub-junior (born in 1995 or after), Youth-B (1994, 1993), Youth-A (1992-1991), Juniors (1990, 1989) and Open category (1988 and earlier) for both boys and girls in `lead’ as well as `speed climbing’.
Interested climbers should send their nominations along with a registration fee of Rs 100 to M/s Everest Traders, Last Morh, Gandhi Nagar Jammu or contact Ram Khajuria on mobile No. 94191-96378 on any day upto May 2nd. On spot registration shall also be done at MNDP School from 7.30 am to 8 am on May third. National and zonal medal winners as well as state champions are, however, exempted from registration fee, a handout issued by the Association said.
A qualified judge in sport climbing and general secretary of the Association, Dr C K Khajuria shall be the president of the Jury of the competition whereas Sumit Khajuria and Dr Shyam Magotra shall be the organizing secretary and Medical Officer of the meet respectively.
Technical and logistic support shall be provided by the North Zone Sport Climbing Committee, New Delhi. The championship is being sponsored by the J&K State Sports Council.
It may be recalled here that Mountaineering Association of J&K has already completed district competitions of Udhampur, Reasi, Samba and Jammu. Competitions of all the districts were conducted at MNDP School, R S Pura as the necessary infrastructure for the competition is not available anywhere else in the state. |
