| Relief rushed in to Ungai | | Local admn officers could not reach fire hit village | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 29 A day and half after a devastating fire struck a remote Kishtwar village, the government today rushed in relief measures and promises of rehabilitation. The blaze struck, Ungaie village in the remote and disconnected Paddar area of Kishtwar district damaging 21 houses and ten cattle sheds were completed gutted and three houses were partially damaged. No loss of human life has been reported from the area. The loss to livestock included 15 chovers, 158 sheep, 32 cows and one mule. The R&B Minister, Local MLA and Divisional Commissioner today visited the are and announced relief of Rs.25,000 from Chief Minister Relief fund for each affected family. This assistance is in addition to the cash assistance given under calamity relief fund. Which include Rs.10,000 for house damage, Rs.2,000 for cattle shed, Rs.1,000 each for clothes and utensils. Besides, free ration for three months and free timber for construction of houses was also announced by the Minister. Instructions were also given to start wage programmes in the area to provide jobs to each affected family. State administration is also urgently air lifting the tents, mattress, sheets blankets, eatables, utensils and medicines to Ungaie village so that the affected people are able to bear this tragic incident. The material assistance is being provided by the Red Cross Organization. Meanwhile, reports reaching here from Kishtwar said that the officers of the local administration could not reach the area as the chopper was stuffed in by Congress leaders. The DDC and some other officers were expected to visit the village but they sought services of army chopper to reach the village as Ungai is located about 15 kilometers on foot from Paddar. A team from district administration and police was schedule to visit the village alongwith the high level team. The team kept waiting at Kishtwar helipad but when the chopper arrived the officers were denied access and instead a local Congress leader, said to be probable party candidate from Kishtwar, was picked up and taken to Ungai, sources said. |
