| Life returns to normal in Kashmir valley after shutdown | | |
SRINAGAR, APR 19 : Life returned to normal in Kashmir valley on Friday a day after a complete shutdown was observed against the second phase of polling for the Lok Sabha election in the state on the call of the separatist groups.
It was back to buzz on the streets. Shops and business establishments re-opened and the transport plied normally. Train services also resumed.
Srinagar Parliament constituency witnessed a moderate polling with just 14.1 percent of the people casting their ballot. Around 35 percent people had cast their vote in Baramulla constituency which held polling on April 11.
However, polling in Jammu constituencies has gone on normally with upwards of 70 percent people voting.
With polling held for two of the three constituencies of Kashmir Valley, the stage is set for the polling in troubled South Kashmir which is going to polls on April 23. In 2017, the state government was unable to hold the by-poll for the parliamentary seat due to the deteriorating security environment.
