Still another controversy is brewing in the Kashmir valley, which if not set at rest and the unrest generated by it not defused well in time, has the potential to snowball into a flare up that was witnessed in the wake of notorious Srinagar sex scandal that came to surface in 2005. While the people at large in the valley under high stress on account of the ongoing militancy and the anti terrorism operations by the security forces, are highly suspicious of every move, particularly if it has links with other parts of the country, the Directorate of School Education Kashmir province has granted permission to a lady from outside the state, who claims to be running an NGO, to visit girls schools have interaction with the students and give them counseling in carrier making in various fields outside the state.
The Directorate of School Education Kashmir is reported to have sent circulation to the principals of various higher secondary government girls schools in Srinagar for arranging group meetings of the schools girls with the concerned lady, some sources claim that she has been the special guest of the education department who has also booked accommodation for her in the Circuit House Srinagar. While the lady in question claims that she is moved by the plight of the Kashmiris, particularly the Kashmiri young girls, who are under high stress and strain in the wake of present turmoil in the valley and wants to help them to come out of trauma as a part of the functioning of the NGO run by her and for this purpose she is engaged in giving counseling to the girls students to engage themselves in some pursuits, which can provide them opportunity to get placements at lucrative creative jobs, which besides making them financially independent, earning good bucks, will also get rid them of the trauma, stress and strain they are undergoing in the present scenario of Kashmir. But some principals of higher secondary girl institutions, where the lady in question has visited as well as parents of some students smell rat in the whole exercise and are apprehensive of something being fishy in the real motives of the woman.
Those who have expressed apprehensions of the things being fishy allege that the women instead of coming straight forward to tell the girl students during her lectures and even interaction with them, has not spelled out the careers for which she is giving them the counseling and about which she presents rosy picture for them. Some principals have also complained that the lady in question tries to be over friendly and intimate with the growing up girl students in the higher secondary classes and invites them to meet her individually, for her to give them counseling in carriers, which can open new vista of opportunities for them. They allege that instead of being straight forward and listing the carriers which she is selling to the girls, she beats about the bush when asked about the specific carriers for which she intends to give counseling to the girl students. A principal of an institution has also objected the women asking the girl students to meet her separately, outside the school, for her to give them real tips in carrier building outside the state. In her open lectures and interactions with the group, she only gives broad hints of vista of carriers awaiting the young girls in the corporate sector in parts of the country outside J&K and even in foreign lands.
In the conservative Kashmir society, where in the past movements have been launched for Talbnisation, with edicts issued by the Mullahas as well as dictates given by the militants for the women to adhere to a particular address code, banning beauty parlors and even video parlors etc, the exercise initiated with the connivance and full support of school education department, is being looked askance and is being dubbed as another move at cultural aggression and attempt at corrupting the Kashmir society, particularly the fair sex, luring them for becoming subject of sexual pleasure by the greedy bureaucrats, politicians and the high ups in the corporate sector. |
