Srinagar Police today claimed to have solved a blind murder case and arrested three persons in this connection.
Giving details of the case at a press conference here today the SSP Srinagar S. A. Mujtaba said that on March 19 last one person namely Ghulam Nabi Sheikh, age around 45 years, nursing orderly SDH Bemina, son-in-law of Reshi Sheikh, resident of Mazhama went missing. Subsequently a missing report was lodged in Police Station Magam on March 24. Initially the search for the missing person was launched by Police Station Magam.
He said on April 17, information was received by Police Station Parimpora that a decomposed male dead body was lying in bushy area of Hokersar marshy land. Police party of Police Station Parimpora retrieved the body and on search of his cloths, identity card and Rs. 7500 were recovered from his possession. The body was identified as Ghulam Nabi Sheikh who had gone missing on March 19. Apparently the person was strangulated to death by using a Nylon rope which was still lying round his neck. Case FIR No. 76/2008 under section 302 RPC was registered. Postmortem of the body was conducted and handed over to legal hairs for last rites, the SSP said.
The investigation was conducted by Inspector Mushtaq Ahmad, SHO Police Station Parimpora and on the basis of technical evidence, two persons namely Shabir Ahmad Sofi and Reyaz Ahmad Dar were picked up for questioning who spilled the beans, SSP said.
Shocking revelations surfaced as creditable leads emanated that the murder revolved round cheating innocent people by luring them for appointments and amassing wealth. Deceased was considered as thorn in the eye, by these cheaters. Ali Sheikh the main master mind in conspiracy with Reyaz and Shabir felt that the Ghulam Nabi Sheikh is a hurdle in issuing fake appointment orders and can expose them at any time.
While on a feast in the house of Mushtaq Ahmad of Chewdara, the murderers discussed the plan to get ride of Ghulam Nabi Sheikh. This plan was given a final shape in a Hotel at Beerwah where they enjoyed tea. Since the deceased was fond of liquor, the pests were mixed in the wine bottle and Reyaz arranged the rope from his residence.
On the "decided date" all the three persons met at Narbal and then proceeded towards Hokersar which is an isolated area where they had promised him to provide a lady in view of the strained relations of the victim with his wife. On reaching the spot they made him to drink the poisonous wine and also assured that the lady is about to come. After one sip, the deceased said it tastes like kerosene oil and this is not a good wine. After that he felt giddiness and tiredness. Both of them found a chance to strangulate him which they executed and placed the dead body in a ditch and put some branches on it to conceal the dead body.
In order to divert the attention, investigation of Police, the duo made phone calls to one lady from the cell phone of deceased for quite some time while sitting at the scene of crime and then threw the cell phone of the deceased in the marshy land to do away with evidence, however this could not fetch them results and were caught, the SSP added.
