Uri The Surgical Strike is still high on josh: Vicky Kaushal film completes 100 days
4/21/2019 8:01:50 PM
New Delhi

When Uri: The Surgical Strike hit the screens in January this year, little did the makers know that the war drama will turn out to be one of the the biggest success stories in Bollywood this year. After entering the Rs 200-crore club in less than a month of its release, Aditya Dhar's directorial venture has now completed 100 days in cinemas.

Aditya Dhar, who made his directorial debut with Uri: The Surgical Strike, took to Twitter to make the announcement. He wrote, "Thank you world for conspiring so beautifully to make URI happen!! 100 days of #URItheSurgicalStrike."

Uri is based on the surgical strike carried out by the Indian Army on seven terrorist launchpads across the Line of Control on September 29, 2016, in retaliation to a terrorist attack on an army camp at Uri earlier that month.

The film in no time became one of the highest grossing films of 2019. In fact, Vicky Kaushal in an interview said that he was surprised by the overwhelming response.

In an interview to a daily, he had said, "Just before the film was to release, Aditya [Dhar, director] and I were discussing how the entire team has given their all - physically, mentally and emotionally - to the project. Though we were content with our efforts, we didn't expect the audience to go bonkers."

Celebrating the 100 days of Uri, Yami Gautam said in a statement that she couldn't be more happy. Interestingly, 100 days of Uri coincides with 7 years of her debut film Vicky Donor.

Talking about the same, Yami said, "It's been a great year so far. Today is the day, when Vicky Donor was released 7 years ago, and what a momentous coincidence that it also is the 100th of Uri at the theatres. Both these films have truly etched a very important place in my career and I couldn't be more happy to have this day to celebrate these two amazing successes. I'm thankful to Shoojit Da to have given me my first film and what a great debut to have and now Aditya Dhar for having me cast in a role people haven't seen me do before. These two projects have been such tremendous successes and I'm grateful that I have two reasons to be in a celebratory mood for."
