Rs.21.50 lakh penalty imposed for violating VAT Act

The sleuths of commercial taxes check post Lakhanpur under the direct supervision of Deputy Commercial Tax Inderjeet Singh conducted surprise checking of trade vehicles attached with the registered transport companies of J&K.
During checking the team seized several goods under sections 67(5), 67 (10) and 67 (9) of the J&K VAT Act 2005 and imposed penalty of over Rs.21.50 lakhs for carrying goods in a clandestine manner.
The Deputy Commissioner has once again asked the traders to refrain from attempting to import goods into the state in violation of the J&K VAT act, 2005, failing which action as provided under law would be initiated against the defaulters.
