Situated at Chinore in Bantalab, the Sprawling Buds School has set an example for others to follow by constructing a national standard Sport Climbing Wall at the school premises, six kilometers from here.
The playing facility, otherwise available only at the MNDP School, R S Pura, will give a boost to the game of Sport Climbing with the start of regular training at the wall in near future.
Set up by a Delhi based company—Green Rock Sport Pvt. Ltd, the wall came into being in technical cooperation with J&K Mountaineering Association.
“The 28 ft high and eight feet wide, technically the wall has more degree of difficulty as compare to the 40 ft high existing wall at the MNDP School, R S Pura,” Ram Khajuria former secretary Mountaineering Association told Sports & Allied News.
It has taken the team of experts from Delhi about 10 days to construct the wall. “The wall when ready will become favourite point for the Jammu climbers, the reason being it has perfect combination of difficulty and speed,” said Manish one of the technical member of the team from Delhi and three time national champion in `On Sight Difficulty’--one of the event of Sport Climbing.
In fact the school has constructed the wall in their premises because they were finding it difficult to send students to R S Pura for practice. “The game fascinated us because of it being a mix of adventure and sports and finally it was decided by the young management of the institution to construct a wall within the school premises,” said Romesh Khajuria, one of the Directors of the school.
In getting the wall constructed in the city, J&K Mountaineering Association also played a key role. “The Association remained a guiding force for us, especially Ram Khajuria, who inspired us for the project. My aim is to produce a national champion from Jammu and Kashmir,” said the young Director of the school, Rahul Sharma, who is fond of trekking and adventure sports.
It is also because of the untiring efforts of the J&K Mountaineers Association that educational institutions in private sector have come forward in raising infrastructure for Sport Climbing. “Since the government is not in a position to raise required infrastructure for every game, so we encourage the managements of those schools having love for adventure sports. The continuing efforts have yielded encouraging results. So, I congratulate and thanks the management of Sprawling Buds School for extending a helping hand to Sport Climbing to grow in J&K,” general secretary of the Association, Dr C K Khajuria said.
