| Army proposed MSP hike | | | New Delhi | May 2
Army today proposed a substantial hike ranging from 100 to 200 per cent in the newly created military service pay (MSP) for personnel below officer rank (PBOR) and its extension to the higher ranks.
Army has also asked for correcting aberration in grade pays in the middle officers ranks and restoring their status and parity with other government services.
These proposals were finalised for submission to the Ministry of Defence in the biannual Army Commanders conference which took note of the concerns and dissatisfaction among the ranks over the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission.
The Commanders said that arrears of MSP should be paid retrospectively from January one, 2006.
The six-day conference, which concludes tomorrow, made an extensive review of the country's security scenario, particularly the threat by the Pakistan-based jehadi groups and step up infiltration into Jammu and Kashmir.
The conference, as part of measures to augment officer intake in the Army, recommended that ratio of short service commission officers should be increased in comparison to permanently commissioned officers.
They also wanted lucrative incentives to be given to officers for each year of completed service and development of infrastructure in training academies to improve training capacities.
The Commanders attributed the shortfall in officers cadre to reduced intake as well as growing trend of personnel seeking premature release.
The conference also deliberated upon upgrading and energising the training curriculum of the PBORs.
It also finalised suggestions to be submitted to the Ministry on expediting and refining the Defence Procurement Policy (DPP). The Ministry of Defence is likely to announce a new DPP within a week.
The Commanders also agreed with the views of the Defence Minister A K Antony and recommended that woman officers could be given permanent commission in some of the non-combat formations of the Army like the Education and Judge Advocate General (JAG) branch. |
