Purohit Sabha Mattan refutes Justice Gupta report
Demands fresh probe on lingam controversy
8/29/2006 9:56:40 PM
JAMMU AUG-29- Strongly rejecting the report of Justice (Retd) K K Gupta giving clean chit to Shri Amar Nath Shrine Board on Shiv Lingam controversy and blaming poor Pandits of Mattan and Ganeshpora for installation of artificial Shiv Lingam at the holy cave, the Purohit Sabha Mattan has demanded a fresh inquiry in presence of three standing judges so that whole truth is made to public.
According to a handout the Purohit Sabha Tirath Martand Shri Amarnath Ji in its meeting held under the chairmanship of its president A K Sidha has said that it was strange that Justice Gupta in its report has tried to deceive crores of Hindus in the country and has played with their sentiments and has accordingly requested both the State and the Central Government to order a fresh inquiry to establish the truth.
The Sabha has taken strong notice of the Gupta report wherein it has been reported that the Pandits of Mattan and Ganeshpora has gone to the cave site in May and they might have installed the artificial lingam there. The Sabha said that it is strange that when the whole area from Pahalgam to holy cave as well as Baltal to holy Cave is covered by security forces and no body is allowed to go without Shrine Board’s permission, how could the pandits have gone to the cave as reported in the Commission report. They said that it was totally false and far from truth and a biased report, which calls for a fresh probe.
The Sabha said that when one of the Mattan Pujari appointed by the Shrine Board told media about the artificial Lingam, he was called by the Board to Raj Bhavan and was sacked and removed from the job. ‘More so the Pujaries present in the cave premises (Mattan/Ganeshpora) were threatened to go by the instructions of the Board or face the consequences like the one already sacked’ the Sabha alleged.
The handout further said that one idol of Nandi was brought by some agency from Udaipur in the month of May this year and were permitted by the Shrine authorities to install the same in the holy cave and a photograph of an artificial lingam was taken by the photographer of Amritsar who distributed these to every yatri present in the holy cave.
Describing Justice Gupta report as totally biased and baseless, the Sabha said that the report has tried to defame the Pandits of Mattan and Ganeshpora who have great faith and ‘Aashtha’ with this holy cave from times immemorial.
