| Hassel free Amarnath Yatra expected | | | | With annual Amarnath Yatra this year commencing on June 18, to culminate on August 16, the auspicious day of Raksha Bandhan, Shri Amarnath Shrine Board has already started registration of pilgrims for undertaking the yatra on different dates. For this purpose one hundred registration centers have been set up and notified by the J&K Bank, who has been held responsible for the purpose. Setting up of hundred registration centers in various parts of the country and fixing the quota of all the states, is definitely going to facilitate the prospective pilgrims and avoid much of the confusion which was witnessed in the past. Yet fixing of the quota of pilgrims to undertake the yatra from different states cannot be adhered strictly and the shortfall of actual number of pilgrims applying for undertaking yatra in one state can be made good by accommodating a larger number of pilgrims from some other state applying for the same. Similarly while the registration of pilgrims at their nearest centers will facilitate them and spare them of much inconvenience, the need for current registration at Jammu, which has lately become the base camp and nerve centre of the yatra cannot be overlooked. Adequate arrangements for registration and facilitating of the pilgrims at Jammu shall have to be insured. Happily, the SASB is quite awake and keen to spare the pilgrims any inconvenience and is taking the maximum care and undertaking measures to ensure the visit of the devotees highly comfortable and pleasant. The setting up of a Yatri Niwas in Jammu city, within a record period after taking the final decision and identifying the location, is another feature in the cap of SASB as well as the J&K Tourism Department, who have worked in collaboration to make the project operational by the time yatra commences this year. This also meets the long standing demand of the devotees from all over the country and the organizations wedded to facilitating and promoting the pilgrimage as well as trade organizations, particularly those related with tourism and pilgrimage, for having a permanent base camp of Amarnath Yatra at Jammu, for providing all the infrastructure and facilities to the yatris at a single premises. This arrangement will also spare much of the traffic chaos and jams in Jammu city, besides inconvenience to the pilgrims of running from pillar to post to have fulfillment of their religious urge. However to avail of the maximum advantage of Yatri Niwas at Bhagwati Nagar Jammu and to spare traffic congestion and chaos there is urgent need for construction of a flyover or a high level road from the Tawi river on its right bank to the Yatri Niwas site by raising embankment along the bank of river Tawi. The present approach road to the Yatri Niwas at Bhagwati Nagar is very narrow and has zigzags which can create problems in the smooth conduct of traffic. Further maximum care should be taken and all necessary steps taken to ensure that no pollution is caused in the river Tawi as a result of lodging of a very large number of pilgrims in the Yatri Niwas, near the Tawi bank. |
