Didi’s ashes immersed in Tawi

Ashes of Nirmala Deshpande (Didi) were immersed in sacred Suryaputri river Tawi after public darshans at Dewan-e-Aam, Mubarak Mandi. S P Varma State Chief of Akhil Bharat Rachnatmak Samaj brought the ashes from New Delhi.
The last rites of Nirmala Deshpande, a noted Gandhian and nominated Rajya Sabha Member who espoused the cause of peace and universal brotherhood for six decades at national and international levels was performed at New Delhi and attended by VVIPs, delegates and dignitaries from all across the globe. Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad who is also a true believer of Gandhian philosophy, Union Minister Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz, CPI (M) leader & MLA M Y Tarigami, MP Mr Sheheen, Mr S P Varma besides hundreds of Gandhian workers from J&K accompanied the funeral procession of Didi Nirmala Deshpande.
Didi Nirmala Deshpande had visited Jammu and Kashmir on a number of occasion and have also interacted with the Hurriyat leadership of Kashmir during the days of turmoil. She was able to form a strong contingent of Gandhian workers in the state spreading the message of Gandhi ji’s teachings to the far-flung and remote corners of the state. A strong contingent of Gandhian workers from J&K who attended the funeral ceremony at New Delhi, decided that the ashes of Didi ji will be immersed in various rivers of J&K including Ravi Kathua, Tawi Jammu, Devak Udhampur, Chenab Ramban, Jhelum Srinagar, Sita Haran flowing spring at Budgam and Sindh river.
Before the ashes were immersed in Tawi River, prominent citizens from all sections of the society had holy darshan of ashes of Didiji. While paying floral tributes Divisional Commissioner Jammu Mr Sudhanshu Pandey felt it great loss to the nation as Didi was a great light to enlighten the masses as peace ambassador. Mr Balraj Puri also paid floral tributes. Mr S P Varma threw lucid light on the life of Didi and expressed shock as it is very difficult to reprieve. We all should pledge to follow the path shown by her for nation building.
Tomorrow, the ashes will be taken to valley for public darshans as the followers of Didi are eagerly a waiting to pay obeisance to her.
Joint Director Information Mr S K Sharma, Wing Commander (retd) M M Joshi, IGP (retd) S S Bijral, Founder President Sahyog India Dr Ashvini Jojra, Mr K K Gandotra, Mr Rajinder Gupta, Mrs Shakuntla Joshi, Vikram Gujral, Farooq Mughal, Abdul Majid Bichoo and S Gurcharan Singh were prominent among those who attended the immersion of ashes in river Tawi.
