| State asked to clear power dues or face action | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | May 3 The power ministry has issued a stern advisory to Jammu and Kashmir, which owe more than rupees six hundred crores to Power Grid Corporation of India, for overdrawing power, asking the state power department to discipline itself and pay arrears, failing which it would face severe action. Well informed sources in the power corridors disclosed that the new advisory comes in the backdrop of recent growing demand of the state government asking the state government to transfer some of the prestigious projects, including recently commissioned National Hydro Electric Power Project, to the state. Sources said that state of Jammu and Kashmir is one of the states, which is overdrawing power from last few months creating panic in the Northern Grid. Power Grid Corporation of India's northern regional load dispatch centre and western regional load dispatch centre had issued cessation of overdrawal messages in April, 2008. The message from the grid has forced the power ministry to issue a fresh advisory to the states including the state. Sources said that the state of Jammu and Kashmir also figure at serial number two in the list of defaulter states. "The state of Jammu and Kashmir was not paying the UI Charges, which has created a huge arrears pending against the state", sources said. They added that after Uttar Pradesh, which has an arrear of Rs 744 crore, Jammu and Kashmir figures at serial number two with arrears of Rs 664 crore". |
