Challenger lifts Nishu Memorial Twenty-20 trophy

Challenger Cricket Club today won the Nishu Memorial Twenty-20 Cricket Tournament beating hosts JJSF (Jammu Joint Students Federation) XI by seven wickets at GGM Science College grounds, here.
Batting first after winning the toss, JJSF XI bowled out for 121 runs in 19.3 overs. In reply, Challenger Club overhauled the opponent total in mere 14.3 overs with seven wickets in hand.
Aman Chib was top scorer with 29 runs including four boundaries while Mantoo and Ashok Sharma made 27 and 17 runs respectively. Extras contributed 28 runs to the total. Dilbag claimed three wickets for Challenger. Sumit and Akash shared two wickets each.
Chasing a run rate of over six runs per over, Challenger Club though lost the openers cheaply yet achieved the target of 122 runs without any difficulty. Brilliant innings played by Madan and Sumit guided Challenger to attain the goal easily sparing 5.5 overs of their innings. Madan made 33 runs studded with two sixes and two boundaries while Sumit contributed 25 including four boundaries. Atul and Mantoo shared one wicket each from JJSF XI.
Sumit was adjudged man of the match for his all-round performance. Man of the match trophies were also awarded for the semi-final matches. In first semi-final, Sumit of Challenger Club and in the second semi-final, Vishal Singh of JJSF XI were awarded the trophies. The winners and runners-up trophies were given away by Mr Ram Paul, father of Nishu, in whose memory the tournament was organized by the Jammu Joint Students Federation (JJSF). Nishu was killed in police firing at Domana. In all, 16 teams took part in this tournament.
