| UP assembly elections before May 14: CEC | | |
Agra, Aug 30 Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) N Gopalaswamy today said the assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh should be conducted before the term of the current House expires on May 14.
Speaking to reporters here, he said the ongoing processs of delimitation of constituencies all over the country will be completed by March 31. This excercise in Uttar Pradesh will conclude by the middle of next month.
The commission will take up the task of issuing voter identity cards till December 31, the CEC said.
To a question, Gopalaswamy said he could not say which other states will go to the polls along with Uttar Pradesh. Besides the most populous state, assembly polls are due in four other states next year. |
