Jammu | May 5
Unmindful of the protection of lives of innocent people, the management of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) here is openly flouting the existing security norms for transportation of filled LPG cylinders.
Not only this, the management is also indulging in gross violation of tender document, as the company is utilizing the services of even those vehicles which were not quoted at the time of tendering by the transporters.
According to the sources, the authorities at the helm of affairs have been deliberately flouting the laid down norms for their personal gains, as majority of vehicles being used at HPCL LPG Bottling Plant, Bari Brahmana are mostly other than those quoted in the tender documents.
The violation of all these norms are openly visible at the bottling plant, as the space in the vehicles, other than quoted vehicles, is less forcing the transporters to place the cylinders in haphazard manner.
When Early Times approached AK Jain, plant manager, he himself admitted in a fit of anger that such practices were rampant but refused to talk further and used abusive language with this correspondent.
R K Gupta, administrative assistant, HPCL, when contacted shifted the blame of these discrepancies on Jain and A K Singh, operation officer (Planning).
However, Singh didn’t respond to the calls made by this correspondent to speak over his alleged involvement.
Meanwhile, there was strong resentment among all those transporters whose vehicles were quoted during the tender process .They alleged that people at the helm of the affairs have been violating the norms only for monetary benefits without caring for the safety of the commoners.
It is to mention that one of the deceived transporters has even issued legal notice to the plant manager through his counsel.
How long the HPCL people will continue with these unfair practices, risking the lives and property, would be worth watching.
The sources also claimed that in most of the cases the cylinders are either under weight or found leaking.
