| MP’s outburst causes ripples in Congress | | Myth of Madan’s loyalty to Azad caves in, as CM takes exception to statement | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | May 5 The alleged statement of the senior Congress leader and Member Parliament Madan Lal Sharma dragging two senior party leaders, one of them enjoying a highly decorated constitutional position, in the infamous Srinagar sex racket has created ripples in the political circles. While opposition parties have got an issue out of nothing, the Congress rank and file is rushing in with firefighting measures to dissolve the controversy arising out of “irresponsible” outburst of the Member Parliament Madan Lal Sharma. His statement is hitting the headlines of national media thus putting the Congress into a state of panic. As the political parties continued to burst with reaction throughout the day, there was no endorsement or denial of statement from Madan Lal which underlined that he stands by what he had said against the Speaker Legislative Assembly Tara Chand and former Minister and PCC Chief Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed. The myth that Madan is a close loyalist and a trusted confidante of the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad also broke down as the government took strong exception to the MPs statement. The official statement carrying reactions of the Chief Minister went on quote and react to the ‘purported’ statement of Madan Lal and no element of doubt was expressed therein. An official spokesman has categorically denied the suggestion that MP, Madan Lal Sharma had approached the Chief Minister and the UPA Chairperson, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi to save the skin of any leader allegedly involved in the Srinagar sex scandal. Reacting to the statement purportedly made by MP, Madal Lal Sharma, the spokesman said that the suggestion was utterly baseless, false and without any foundation. He said there was no question of the MP having approached the Chief Minister or the UPA Chairperson on this issue or the government trying to protect any accused in the scandal. The spokesman said that the government wanted a fair probe into the scandal and accordingly handed it over to the country's premier investigating agency, the CBI. He said if the accused were intended to be officially protected then the state government would have carried out the investigations on its own and not referred the case to the CBI. He described as most unfortunate and reprehensible efforts to drag the names of UPA Chairperson, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi and the Chief Minister into the controversy. The spokesman recalled that the case of the Srinagar sex scandal was pending before the honourable High Courts of J&K and Punjab & Haryana, adding that the matter being sub-judice, making statements on it could amount to the contempt of the honourable courts. The supporters of Tara Chand have decided to bring the matter pertaining to mud slinging resorted to Madan Lal Sharma to the notice of Congress high command. They said that Madan Lal had requested Tara Chand to persuade Ms Sonia Gandhi for recommending Sharma’s name for berth in the union cabinet. He had done so because he had come to know that Tara Chand was close to high command. Meanwhile, speaking to the reporters here today the Speaker Tara Chand said that his political enemies are conspiring against him. He said the High Court was monitoring the case and nothing came out of it. I am soldier of the congress party and my senior party leaders including party president Sonia Gandhi, Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and PCC chief Saif ud Din Soz are all aware about the case and my image in the party. I have nothing more to say as my supporters and well wishers will decide my fate, he added. |
