Srinagar | May 6
Businessmen in Jammu and Kashmir are hopeful of more business after the Darbar Move - an annual practice of shifting the capital from Jammu to Srinagar.
Over 5,000 employees have shifted here as authorities pressed into service state transport corporation buses and trucks to move officials and government records.
"Today we can say that as compared to other states, this capital is working perfectly. Here... since long the conditions that were prevailing, have now changed... human rights violations have come down," said Ghulam Nabi Azad, Chief minister, Jammu and Kashmir.
The state government will function from Srinagar till October end and will subsequently shift to Jammu.
The practice of bi-annual move between the state's two capitals locally known as "Darbar Move" has been in practice from 1882 when the then Dogra rulers of the state introduced it to forge an emotional integration between the people of the two regions of the state.
With considerable expansion in the state government establishment, the annual practice reportedly costs a whooping 700 million rupees.
Srinagar has got a facelift ahead of the "Darbar move' and various establishments connected with the hotel and allied industries are also gearing up for the upcoming tourist rush.
