| One-run win for Statistics Deptt | | Inter-Department Cricket Tournament of JU | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | May 6 Department of Statistics snatched the unexpected one-run victory from Department of Physics and Electronics to qualify for the quarterfinals of the Inter-Department Cricket Tournament of University of Jammu that resumed today after a gap at University grounds, here. It was Vikas Sharma, JURSEA president, who halted the winning run of Physical Department. Needing six runs to level the score in the last over bowled by Vikas, Statistics Department could only make five to lose the match by one run. Earlier, batting first after winning the toss, Statistics Department set a target of 139 runs for five in 20 overs game which was reduced 18 due to late arrival of the teams. Vikram was top scorer with 25-ball 31 runs including one six and three fours while Imran and Ankit contributed 29 and 21 runs respectively. Sunny added 18 runs. From Physics and Electronics Department, Vishal claimed two wickets, followed by Dhanvir and Rahul Dev, who shared a piece each. In reply, Physics and Electronics fell short of two runs from winning target and exhausted their quota of 18 overs for 137 runs. However, Anil played excellent innings of 43 (off 26 balls) runs while Rakesh and Jatinder contributed 20 and 21 runs respectively. Amit added 19 runs. Ankit and Vikas took two wickets each while Rahul bagged one. |
