| Slippery tongue lands Madan in soup | | Recorded tape reaches Delhi, MP asked to explain | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | May 6 Senior Congress leader and Member Parliament Madan Lal Sharma has been denying what now has become a full blown controversy and a major embarrassment for his party but thing don’t end here. The central leadership of the party is deeply annoyed with him and he has been slapped with a show cause notice to explain position within a week. Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad had already taken his hand off head of Madan Lal and today it was turn of PCC Chief and Union Water Resources Minister Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz who said that the erring MP will have to face disciplinary action. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has said that allegations by Madan Lal were false and that action would be taken against him. "Making false accusations is unacceptable; it is against the justice system and amounts to questioning the integrity of judges. Action will definitely be taken against the MP for making a false statement," Azad told a private TV news channel in Srinagar today. In his typical flamboyant style Madan told a public meeting in Khour area on Sunday that with connivance of Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad he had put in efforts to save skin of Speaker Tara Chand and former Minister Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed who he alleged were embroiled in the sex scam. Madan was apparently speaking out of sheer frustration due to growing clout of Speaker Tara Chand but his ostensibly reprehensible statement has done more damage to him than anyone else. In the Congress circles, Madan is known for his casual choice of words about any person or leader. He casually went on speak against the Speaker and landed in soup. Though he has been accusing the media for blowing his statement out of proportion and also pleading “slip of tongue” but his speech has fully recorded by the camerapersons of the cable operators and some files have been obtained by his detractors for showing to the senior party leaders. Leaving no scope for escape, the Congress party has already issued issuing show cause notice to him for "false, uncalled for and unwarranted" remarks against Speaker Tara Chand and an MLA in connection with a sex scandal. Taking "serious notice" of comments of MP from Jammu, state party chief Saifuddin Soz asked him to reply within a week as to why "disciplinary action" should not be taken against him for making the remarks which amount to "gross indiscipline and misconduct". In the notice, Soz referred to Sharma's remarks made at a public meeting in Khour in Jammu on Sunday in which he alleged he had approached Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and that they had 'intervened to save' Chand and MLA and former PCC chief Peerzada Mohd Sayeed from being 'implicated' in the alleged case of sex abuse. "I have taken serious notice of the false, uncalled for and unwarranted remarks," the state unit chief, who is also Union Minister, told Sharma. "While making the said allegations, you did not consider it necessary to take notice of the fact that the Jammu and Kashmir government had acted fast when the matter came to its notice and referred the matter straightaway to the CBI for inquiry," the notice to Sharma said. Soz also reminded Sharma that the matter he had referred to was pending before the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and the High Court of Punjab and Haryana but the MP did not take notice of this fact. "You did not think it necessary to raise your grievance, if any, with the party leadership and went to the press with allegations, which amount to gross indiscipline and misconduct," the J and K Congress chief said. Sharma had alleged that Chand and Sayeed were named in the sex scandal but were saved on the intervention of top party leaders. But a day later, he backtracked saying he had made no such remarks. Earlier today, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said allegations by Sharma were false and that action would be taken against him. "Making false accusations is unacceptable; it is against the justice system and amounts to questioning the integrity of judges. Action will definitely be taken against the MP for making a false statement," Azad told a TV news channel here. The scandal about alleged involvement of several police officers, bureaucrats and politicians in a sex racket in the city rocked the state early last year and the case is sub judice as its is before a sessions court in Chandigarh. The Jammu and Kashmir High court is monitoring the CBI probe into the case. |
