| ….meanwhile, Dar joins NC | | Farooq welcomes with open arms | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | May 7 Coinciding with the formation of Ghulam Hassan Mir’s party, the PDP suffered yet another set-back when its former general secretary Javid Ahmed Dar, who had quit the party recently, joined the opposition National Conference. Dar, who had quit the PDP on May 2 following a strained relationship with the party leadership, was formally inducted into the NC by its patron and former chief minister Farooq Abdullah at the party headquarters here. Welcoming Dar to the NC, Abdullah said the party would be strengthened as Dar is an influential leader from Rafiabad in Baramulla district. NC lost the seat to PDP candidate Mohammad Dilawar Mir in a by-election two years ago. Dar said the PDP was "controlled" by capitalists and cited it as the main reason for his quitting the party. "I do not understand the politics of PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed", he said. Asked whether Dar would be fielded as NC candidate from Rafiabad, Abdullah said the party will meet and decide the matter. He, however, added hastily that party would give its mandate to young and energetic persons. "We will present young and better candidates to the people of every region. Youth have to come forward and work for a better tomorrow," he said. Abdullah, who has been nominated by the party as its chief ministerial candidate, said NC would decide on the post and power to be allocated to his son Omar Abdullah only after the elections. Criticising both governments at the Centre and the state for their "anti-people" stance, he said," The Prime Minister's recommendations for working groups were made two years ago but no action was taken in time. "Now that the elections are coming up, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad are making announcements on implementation of the recommendations because they know that they are on a sticky wicket." |
