Need to conserve Mughal monuments:Charak

To develop adventure tourism in Rajouri district like climbing, tracking expedition through passes, meadows, mighty mountains, develop hill resorts and pilgrimage destinations for promotion of pilgrimage tourism, Minister for Higher Education Mr. Gulchain Singh Charak today reviewed the status of ongoing development works initiated by the Tourism Development Authority (TDA) Rajouri at a high level meeting held here this afternoon.
Minister of State for PHE, Industries and Commerce Dr. Romesh Chander Sharma, MLA Kalakote Mr. Rashpaul Singh, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Mr. Sudhanshu Pandey, Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Mr. Sheikh Refiq Ahmed Dar, Director Tourism Mr. Ajay Khajuria, Chief Conservator Forests, Chief Executive Officer Rajouri Development Authority Mr. Javed Ahmed and other senior officers of Tourism, Forests and Revenue were also present in the meeting.
It was informed in the meeting that the Centre government has sanctioned Rs. 249.55 lakh during 2006-07 for construction of tourist reception centres at Lahwali Bowli and Chingus and wayside amenities at Manjakote, Palam Park. It was further informed that five projects including development three sites for base camps for trekkers, integrated development of Dehraki Gali and Shahdara Sharief, rose garden, Pathi Bowli and way side amenities alongside Jammu-Poonch highway under Destination Development Scheme were also sanctioned by the government of India at a cost of Rs. 434. 68 lakh.
It was given out in the meeting that the central government also sanctioned Rs. 173.29 lakh for development of children park and interpretation centre at Rajouri besides development of Veer Vadehswer and Dhar Wali Bowli under Destination Development Scheme Phase-II for benefit of tourists. The meeting informed that the state government has also submitted thirteen new projects to GOI amounting to Rs. 985.75 lakh for sanctioning besides three projects including TRC at Rajouri, amenity at Chingus and Yatri Niwas at Mangla Devi were also sanctioned under Circuit Development Scheme at a cost of Rs. 222.24 lakh.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Charak asked the officers of TDA Rajouri to personally monitor the ongoing development works and use quality material on development works. He said that it is the concerted efforts of Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad, the centre government has provided sufficient funds for completing the ongoing development within stipulated time frame. He said that government is determined to create durable assets in the state. To facilitate the tourists, the government has released Rs. 92 lakh under state plan for construction of Guest House at Rajouri and renovation of Tourist Dak Bunglow at Shahdara Sharief.
He directed the TDA Rajouri to introduce eco-tourism in consultation with Forest Department so that the forest can also be protecting from encroachment. He asked the TDA to start the construction works of new projects after the consultation of respective areas MLA. He said that the tourism sector in the district has got tremendous fillip during the last one and half year with the identification of exotic tourist destinations in this otherwise undiscovered heavenly abode. The existing pilgrimage was requiring rejenuation by way of providing residential infrastructure like wayside amenities, TRCs, Yatri Niwas facilities and recreational picnic spots. He said that the government envisaged a prestigious and ambitious tourism destination and circuit tourism development projects in district Rajouri. Initiating the process of tourism department in the district, he said that a Yatri Niwas at Mangla Devi has been taken up for construction which is nearing completion at a cost of Rs. 90 lakh to provide accommodation to thousands of pilgrims visiting scenic locations. He said that TRC at Rajouri is being constructed under Jammu-Poonch tourist circuit besides a Tourist Guest House Building at Rajouri has been completed by Tourism Department and a prestigious TRC at Shahdara Sharief is coming up which is likely to be completed by July 2008.
Mr. Charak said that the historical Mughal Monuments on Mughal road have been envisages for conservation and preservation. He said that Tourism Department has taken up the projects for formulation of DPR’s of all these monuments which will be finalized and submitted to the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India for its approval on the lines of Mubarak Mandi complex Jammu and other historical monuments like Qila-e-Reasi and Qila-e-Poonch. On the conservation and renovation of these Mughal monuments along Mughal road will open new era of International Heritage tourism. He apprised that the government has envisaged completing eight prestigious tourism infrastructure complexes which will provide comfortable accommodation to the tourists visiting in the twin districts of Rajouri-Poonch.
