Environment awareness campaign inaugurated

Divisional Commissioner Jammu Mr. Sudhanshu Pandey inaugurated first ever Environmental Awareness campaign starting from today till June 11.
The month long environmental awareness campaign has been organized by Indian Council for Enviro Legal Action (ICELA) in collaboration with J&K State Pollution Control Board.
Convener Mr. Ashok Sharma (MLC), Ex Vice Chancellor SKUAST Mr. Harbans Singh, Director School Education, Chief Education Officer Jammu, Joint Director Information Mr. S. K. Sharma and senior officers from various departments were present on the occasion.
Saying that practical implementation of thoughts and suggestions putforth on varied foras is imperative for preservation and proper conservation of environment, the Divisional Commissioner asserted that awareness should not remain confined to seminars, debates and other environmental awareness programmes. He said in view of the fast degrading environment cover, education on the subject is the dire need of the hour before it is too late. On budding generations being the torch bearing force, he said students should be made well aware as they could spread the message to many to save the mother earth from destruction.
Conservation of environment defers major castrophe as cosmic treatment is superficial and we have to work on fundamental issues, Mr. Pandey said environmental awareness is necessary because man himself is the root cause of environmental hazards as he always tries to implement his laws but cannot overwrite the laws of nature. He said our actions should be demonstrative and effective in a manner that we must choose any environment concerning issue e.g. plastic menace, sanitation, planting of trees or protecting green cover and others. With firm commitment and conviction we must make it a habit to work on the particular issue and could become catalyst for bringing change in society.
Vice Chancellor SKUAST, Mr. Harbans Singh gave detailed information on varied environmental issues concerning the world over. He spoke on reasons for reduction in food production, global warming, organic farming and decrease in rainfall. He said main cause of pollution is affluent of factories and smoke emitted from automobiles and refineries, the recent example of which is cyclone in Myaumar. Dr. Singh stressed on morale and spirituality as this purifies soul and body.
