KVK Reasi imparts training on SHGs

Reasi, May 12: Krishi Vigyan Kendra(KVK), Reasi under the administrative control of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) organized one day training programme on "Formation, Management and Strengthening of Self Help Groups (SHGs)" here at Chaiter village of Pouni block in Reasi district of J&K which was enthusiastically attended by a number of women of the village. The programme was organized under the guidance of Associate Director Extension and Incharge KVKs of SKUAST-J, Dr. R.K. Arora. The core objective of the training programme was to create better understanding of important features and functions of Self Help Groups (SHGs) including regular saving, record keeping, regular meetings, regular inter loaning, linkage with banks, repayment ethics and assistance to the SHGs for the upliftment and sustainable livelihood of women farmers. Dr. Banarsi Lal, Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi initiated the programme and apprised the participants about the concept of Self Help Group (SHG). He said that the SHGs can become the vehicle of change for tackling the socio-economic problems of the rural women. He said that SHGs formation has immense scope in hilly areas and can play a pivotal role in the eradication of poverty from these downtrodden areas. He narrated that rural women can be empowered by the SHGs.
