| Govt misuses power, authority with an eye on election: Harshdev | | JKNPP lodges strong complaint with CEC | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | May 10 Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party has lodged a strong complaint about the illegal, unconstitutional and election motivated acts of omissions and commissions being committed by the coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir with a view to intimidate and corrupt voters for forthcoming assembly elections. In a letter addressed to Chief Election Commissioner of India, Harshdev Singh, Panthers Legislature party leader and Secretary General has alleged that ‘in abuse of powers and authority, the Congress-PDP government in the state is resorting to undue influence, dishonest and dissolute measures to influence the voters on the eve of assembly elections in the state. In his letter, the PP leader further alleged that Divisional Commissioner Jammu and IGP Jammu, on the directions of the Chief Minister, have made recruitments of more than 100 constables in utter violation of the prescribed norms and recruitment rules. Alleging that these appointments were made on political considerations, Harshdev further said in his letter that the candidates are selected at the behest of Chief Minister adding that thousands of candidates have been selected in the police department arbitrarily without following due procedure of law governing such appointments. Not only this, the government under the ‘Fast Track system of recruitment’, has constituted committees of its favorites and blue eyed officers for making selections against40, 000 posts within a period of three months. The letter further said that thousands of works have been awarded to political workers of the ruling class besides making transfers of officials on extraneous considerations. The ‘Government is misusing the public exchequer and misappropriating government funds with an eye on the coming elections’, JKNPP leader alleged and emphasized that the ‘public exchequer can’t be expended on the basis of the pure discretion and in violation of the prescribed procedures and norms’. The action of the government not only amounts to misappropriation of funds and abuse of authority but is also a corrupt practice which requires to be taken cognizance by the Election Commission, Harshdev said in his letter and warned that the party shall knock the doors of the appropriate court in case the CEC fails to intervene in the interest of free, fair and impartial polls in Jammu and Kashmir. |
