JPVM laments neglect of tourism sector in Jammu
5/12/2019 11:09:53 PM

Early Times Report

JAMMU, May 12: Expressing resentment against the Governments at the state and the Centre for continued neglect and discrimination with Jammu region, Jammu Paryatan Vikas Mandal (JPVM) has warned launching of agitation to make Jammu as an independent tourist destination in view of the utter failure of the administration.
An emergency meeting of all the stakeholders of tourism related traders including Hotels & Lodges, Transporters, Presidents of the Bazar Associations of Raghunath Bazar, Hari Market, Lower Gummat, Upper Gummat, Gummat Stairs and Bus Stand Shopkeepers was convened to discuss and deliberate the ways and means to be adopted for making Jammu an independent tourist destination. Addressing the meeting, chairman JKVM Inderjeet Khajuria said that India got freedom from Britishers during 1947 but Jammu since then has become slave of Kashmir centric politicians and has been meted out step-motherly treatment in all the spheres of developments and employment, besides education, health and allied sectors. He further said that for Jammuites history is wirness that nothing short of agitation has brought success and that too at the cost of sacrifices, which included human lives as well. The projects of Jammu AIIMS, Central University, Medical College, Agricultural University and permanent shifting of Secretariat were achieved after pursuing agitations. It is really shameful that none of the governments could remove discrimination for making Jammu an independent tourist destination even after lapse of more than seven decades with an irony of fate that no tourism project saw light of the day due to deliberate political neglect.
Khajuria complained that there is total neglect of publicity for Jammu tourism places and full publicity is being provided to Kashmir tourism at state, interstate, national and international levels.
The members decided to approach Chamber of Commerce & Industries, Bar Association Jammu, JPPF, all civil societies and Jammu based political parties for consultation and finalization of proposed agitation as Jammu has been left with no other alternative due to negative attitude of the government against traders, who are forced to face starvation due to deterioration of the business.
