Early Times Report

Jammu, May 12: This Sunday theatre witnessed an engrossing presentation of Sarveshwar Dayal Sexana's play 'Hawalat' under the direction of Neeraj Kant at Natrang Studio Theatre. The play is a hard hitting satire on the establishment which has failed to tap the most energetic human resource of the country.
The cry of the dejected youth has been beautifully portrayed in the play. The story of the play 'Hawalat' revolves around three young men who have no place to live. It was the coldest night of the winter and they were without food and shelter. Since nobody was ready to offer them the shelter, they thought it proper to have the same in a police lock-up. For this, they approached a police cop as criminals. For some time the cop is not ready to believe in them and asks them to establish their credentials by demonstrating their expertise in crime and past accomplishments. They try to convince him by giving series of logics. To avoid them, the cop agrees to take them to the lock-up (Hawalat) after tying their eyes. Instead of taking them to the Police station, the cop makes them taking rounds at one cross road and finally leaves at the same place from where they had started. The play is a big satire on the exploitation of the youth by the present system.
