one-day Workshop on Cyber Crime held

Jammu , May 13th : Zonal Police Headquarters Jammu organized one-day Workshop on "Different Dynamics of Cyber Crime: Solutions thereof" for the Cyber experts and investigating Officers of Jammu Zone at Police Auditorium Gulshan Ground, Jammu today.

M.K. Sinha, IPS IGP Jammu was the chief guest on the occasion and inaugurated the Workshop. Other senior officers like Staff Officer to IGP Jammu Zone Jammu, Sh. Rajesh Sharma, Shri Suram Singh, SP Rural Jammu and Shri Vinay Sharma, SP South Jammu also participated in the programme.

The programme was hosted by the Resource Person Associate Professor National Law School Begaluru, Dr. A Nagarathna, who shared a plethora of knowledge on the subject with the participants along with special anecdotes from her personal experience in cyber crime.

During his inaugural address, IGP Jammu Zone, highlighted the importance of knowledge of Cyber Law and cyber crime detection techniques for Police Officers and said that the advent of cyber space has revolutionized communication networks, but with its susceptibility to misuse, there is a great need to equip ourselves with cyber laws. "We need to have knowledge of all the latest techniques with the help of which the cyber criminals extract important details from a person, group or an organisation and take necessary measures to prevent its misuse, regulate its use and provide proper deterrence to prevent recurrence of such offences", Mr. Sinha said.

He further said that the country is ushering into an era of digitalization, wherein everything is put in the cyber space vis-à-vis communication, banking, commerce, trading, storage of data, etc, which inherently provides criminals ample opportunity to penetrate and commit offences like theft, defamation, intimidation among others.

He commended the role of SP Operations, Jammu Sh. Sandeep Mehta who took initiative in organizing this very informative workshop on Cyber Crime, which is very important for the Police Officers as no Law Enforcement Agency can afford not to know about electronic evidence in this era. 'Detection of cyber crimes, their proper investigation and active prosecution are the latest challenges of the day. The workshop deliberated in detail on the importance of knowledge of Cyber Crime, its detection and solutions thereof, Information Technology Act 2008 and Admissibility of Digital Evidence besides Search and Seizure of Digital Evidence.

There were brainstorming session in which Police Officers interacted with the Resource Person and sought clarifications on different issues relating to appreciation of various aspects while dealing with cyber crimes. Sandeep Mehta, SP Operations, Jammu coordinated the proceedings during the workshop and introduced the programme by highlighting objective behind organizing the Workshop on Cyber Law and moderated the sessions also.
