Jammu, May 13: General Category People's Forum-Jammu held its meeting today under the chairmanship of Raj Kumar Banathia, Chairman of the Forum. In the meeting threadbare discussion was held over various issues confronting the General Category people. Speaking on the occasion, Banathia said that forum has vowed to fight for the socio-economic and political rights of General Category. He alleged that General Category has been deceived, marginalized and ignored socially, economically and politically through caste-based reservations, special privileges, quotes and concessions since 1955 by the political class for its political gains. Yash Paul Sanson, President of the forum demanded restoration of rights of equality, justice, liberty and equal opportunities to General Category people and stressed for 'Equal Rights and Equal laws' to all demanding abrogation of all such laws and legal provisions which discriminated between caste and caste. Som Nath Sharma Gen Secretary condemned political parties which have been promoting casteism through caste based reservations and other political privileges and concessions violating fundamental principles of equality, justice, dignity and human rights violation. Sharma stressed adding that problems of General Category people need to be resolved as per the spirit of Indian constitution. V.K. Sharma, Vice President demanded setting up of a Reservation Review Commission (RRC) to review seventy year old reservation policy. He also demanded stoppage of 'Free services' and cash payments to ensure political gains. Sharma appealed to the Governor to enhanced medical allowance from Rs. 300 to 3000 pm and issue Green Medical Cards to the Senior Citizens for reimbursement Medical treatment expenditure.
