Jammu, May 13: Faculty members of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agriculture Sciences and Technology Jammu today organized a function to celebrate Earth day.
Speaking on occasion Dr T.A.S Ganai, Director Education, threw light on the alarming rate of extinction of species and its ill effect on humanity. Dr. D.P Abrol, Dean Faculty of Agriculture, gave a brief account on the importance of honey bees and beneficial insects and their role in maintaining the ecological balance in nature and economic importance in agriculture.
Dr. Rajesh Katoch, Dean Student Welfare, gave a brief account of importance of crustaceans and arthropods and their role in human food. Dr. Sanjay Guleria, I/C Counseling and Placement Cell also briefed the audience about our species and their importance globally.
Dr. R.K. Salgotra, Coordinator School of Biotechnology was also present on the occasion. A debate among NSS volunteers was also held on the topic 'Protect our Species' in which Miss Pakhneet Kour, Komal Hans and Ninaad Mahajan got first, second and third prize respectively. The programme was coordinated by Dr Subhash C Kashyap Assistant Professor, PBG and NSS programme officers Dr. Vishal Gupta, Dr. Neeraj Gupta presented vote of thanks.
