Hirdesh reviews summer preparedness of PDD

JAMMU, MAY 14: Commissioner /Secretary PDD Hirdesh Kumar held a meeting of Senior Engineers of PDD Jammu regarding Summer Preparedness of Power Development Department for providing quality power supply to consumers of Jammu Province during the summer season.

This meeting was convened as a follow up of the meeting chaired by the Governor on 30.04.2019 at Raj Bhawan Jammu, to review the progress of implementation of decision taken and directions issued in the meeting.

During the meeting, the Commissioner/Secretary reiterated that during this summer there shall be 24x7 power supply in the urban areas of Jammu City, Udhampur, Reasi and Ramban Town while daily power cut shall not exceed one hour in urban areas of district Samba, Kathua, Rajouri, Poonch, Doda and Kishtwar. Furthering the directions, the Commissioner/Secretary emphasized that in rural/unmetered areas of Jammu Province, the daily curtailment shall be reduced from 08 hours to 07 Hours in a day and shall be minimized specifically from 6.00 PM to 11.00 PM when the power is required most by the households. These evening curtailments shall be staggered on different days of the week.

He further directed that the overload protection device shall be installed on all the distribution transformers by the end of September 2019, without fail, to check the overloading of transformers so that their damage rate can be reduced.

He was briefed about the progress in procurement of buffer stock of transformers at Divisional Level and installation of firefighting equipment to avert any eventuality due to fire.

The Commissioner/Secretary also directed to check the power theft by high-end consumers like furnaces and steel mills. He was briefed by Development Commissioner (Power) JKPDD that enforcement teams have further been strengthened and inspections are being done on daily basis by different inspection squads constituted by Administrative Department, Development Commissioner Power's office, Chief Engineer's office, Superintending Engineer's office and Executive Engineer's office, the reports along with their Action Taken Reports shall be submitted to the Chief engineer Planning and design Wing, J&K.

The Commissioner /Secretary also took serious note of poor revenue realization during the month of April, 2019 and warned strict action against the delinquent officers/officials. He also made it clear to the senior functionaries of the Department that the revenue realization shall be monitored on monthly basis now onwards.

He also directed to issue safety tools and gadgets to the field staff and expedite framing proposal for life insurance cover of field staff as per the directions issued in the meeting chaired by the Governor. The premium of this insurance cover has to be paid by the department.

Chief Engineer EM&RE, Jammu apprised the meeting that the provincial level 24X7 Control Room with toll free number 18001807666 and 0191-2490986 are in place for addressing to the complaints of public during summers season. Similar control rooms have also been established at District level and their helpline numbers are widely publicized.

The Commissioner/Secretary also directed to take precautionary measures to prevent fire accidents of standing crop recently reported from certain rural areas.

Further, the Commissioner directed Power Controller Jammu, Executive Engineer LDM&T to submit a proposal of Short Term PPA to purchase power at economically suitable rate so that there is no shortage in power procurement during summers.

The meeting was attended by Development Commissioner (Power), all Chief Engineers, Superintending Engineers and Executive Engineers.
