| 2-Member British High Commission delegation call on Nirmal Singh | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | May 10 A 2- member delegation of British High Commission, headed by Sir Richard Stagg, British High Commissioner in India, called on Member National Executive BJP and former State President Dr. Nirmal Singh here today to know his views on the current situation in Jammu and Kashmir. Dr. Nirmal Singh informed them about the continued existence of terrorist training camps in PoK and Pakistan army’s border firing to push in the terrorists into the state. The non-seriousness of Pakistan to counter terrorism is indicated by the state of the joint terrorism mechanism set between India and Pakistan having yet to see the light of the day because of Pakistan’s non-seriousness. It is serious about controlling terrorism only on its western borders as it impinges on its security and survival but not on eastern side, where it is still stoking the embers of terrorism in J&K and rest of the country, the BJP leader has told the visiting delegation. According to the statement released to the press Dr. Nirmal Singh is reported to have said the delegation that the root cause of the troubles in J&K is the special status under Article 370 of the Indian Constitution which has adversely affected its economy and rendered its people poor and deprived. No private investment is forthcoming due to this special status. Within the state, disproportionate importance has been given to the Kashmir valley resulting in discrimination and neglect of Jammu and Ladakh regions. The refugees who had migrated to the state from Pakistan in 1947 have not been till date given the status of citizenship in the state because of this. Special status of the state has only encouraged and fostered separatism and fundamentalism. Not only this, special status has made whole nationalistic people of the state demoralized and made the task of terrorists easy in terrorizing them. This also emboldened them to bring about displacement of about five lakh Kashmiri Pandits from Kashmir valley, Singh is reported to have told the delegation. Dr. Singh categorically stated that there is no question of Azadi or separatism of the state or any part of it from the rest of the country. He said the way to deal with the trouble in the state is to remove feeling of discrimination in Jammu and Ladakh regions by delimitation of assembly seats on accepted norms ensuring due representation to these regions in the political power sharing between the three regions of the state keeping the constitutional and ground reality in mind. |
