| Mufti to rivals… | | Aa Samne Akh Vich Akh Pa Ke Ikk Dooje Nu Azma Laiye | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | May 10 The BJP today got a severe bashing from the Peoples Democratic Party patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed who asked his opponents to come and have debate on his ideas and proposals for resolution of Kashmir issue. Mufti said that democracy is all about battle of ideas and it can not be fought by burning effigies. He challenged the BJP and other opponents of PDP’s formulas including self rule, joint control and dual currency to come a have dialogue as what else can be better. He claimed that his ideas were pragmatic and futuristic. Unperturbed over the recent spree of burning of effigies over dual currency issue by activists of various political formations, Mufti said politics is a battle of ideas and he will continue to fight. “I am not going to stop my struggle just because people are buring my effigies on the street. If you think that by burning my effigies you are going to win battle of ideas I invite you to keep yourself busy I will not change track, Mufti said emphatically. Mufti said that PDP led coalition regime has laid a foundation of mutual trust and confidence among inhabitants of different regions and sub-regions of the State. "Our government treated all regions equally but backward and ignored regions were given special attentions", the PDP patron said and challenged his opponent to come with any evidence of discrimination with any regions or sub-regions during his regime. "We have set an example how to deliver good governance. Our government treated all regions and sub regions equally", he said and told the gathering that policies and programmes of PDP were guided by the wishes and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. "Since its formation PDP has been propagating for restoring lasting peace in this region", he said and added that it was all due to the policies of the party that a new path of development and tranquility has been carved out. Cautioning people against vicious campaign launched by some vested interests against the party, Mr Sayeed pointed that issues taken up the PDP were supported by the successive governments at Centre. "Previous NDA regime headed by Atal Behari Vajpayee and present UPA government led by Dr Manmohan Singh whole heartedly supported initiatives taken by us for restoring peace in this region", Mr Sayed said while recalling the historic rally of then Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee at Kashmir on April 2002 when he had extended hands of friendship towards Pakistan at the time when tension was running high on borders. What ever steps we initiated for restoring peace, successive regimes at Delhi endorsed our stand, he said and reiterated PDP's commitment to work as facilitator for solution of Kashmir problem with honour and dignity. "We are not for enjoying but to empower the common masses to elect government of their choice", he said and recalled that it was all due to the efforts of PDP that the then Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee had announced from the Red Fort to conduct free and fair elections. "Our biggest achievement is that we revived faith of the people in democratic institutions. Now people feel that they can elect government of their own choice", he said. "After formation of coalition regime we fulfilled these commitments and it is due to the policies being propagated by our government that situation has been changed in the State. "From Kathua to Kargil people have been peacefully living on border", the former Chief Minister said and asserted "Time is not far when Sailkote-Suchetgarh road would be opened as a trade to facilitate economic growth of the people living on both sides". |
