Handwara sex racket accused remand extended

Srinagar, Aug 30: A local court in North Kashmir extended till tomorrow the police remand of five of the accused, including a journalist, in the Handwara sex scandal.

Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Handwara Kousar Ahmed Qureshi also remanded five more accused, including a Janata Dal (United) leader, in police custody till September 14.

Those remanded till tomorrow were journalist Ghulam Mohiuddin Bhat alias Raja Mohiuddin, Mushtaq Ahmad Sofi, Ghulam Nabi Parray, Aijaz Ahmad Lone and Mehboob Geelani and those sent to police custody were Abdul Majid Bhat, Abdul Waheed, Abdul Gani Ikhwani, Khursheed Ahmad Aawan and JD(U) leader Mir Khursheed Ahmed.

The judge also took strong exception to the shouting of slogans by the accused within the court premises and asked them to ensure that they do not make any noise as it amounts to contempt of court.
