Former Chief Minister and Chief Patron of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mufti Mohammed Sayeed today reiterated that the bullet for bullet was no answer for complete return of the peace and normalcy in the militancy hit state of the Jammu and Kashmir adding "in the democratic set up like our country normalcy demands dialogues"
Addressing a huge public rally held at Roop Nagar, JDA colony to welcome social and political leader, Dr. Roop Lal Sharma in to the party-fold, Sayeed said that it was due to his personal perceptions and implementation of the common minimum programme of his party that truce ushered on the border and people are living peaceful life for the last three years in the state.
He said that PDP had promised with the people for initiation of the peace process with Pakistan to promote bonds of the mutual love and fraternity in both the countries, return of the task force to barracks, ending the scenario of the harassment of the innocent people and to work for the elimination of the draconian POTA Rule in the Jammu and Kashmir. All these promises made with people have almost been fulfilled by our coalition government during the last three years; he said and added that he is in the habit of calling a spade and spade. Most of his friends in the State first laughed at his commitments but later they found these realistic.
Mufti also paid tributes to the senior photo journalist Ashok Sodhi and a political leader Hoshiar Singh who were killed during an encounter with militants near Samba this morning and said that devoted leaders' sacrifice for the nation in general and for the state in particular will be remembered always.
Mufti further said that political stability in Pakistan was still not definite as the new Prime Minister of that country Mohamed Yousif Raza Gelani and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharief were not sure of that. While in our country we have the perfect democratic system. "We go to the people and people give us the strength."
He hopped that people of the State will give the power to PDP again as in last elections their party had won 16 seats from Kashmir Valley.
Dr. Roop Lal Sharma in his remarks paid gleaming tributes to photo journalist Ashok Sodhi and said that such killings were cowardly acts of terrorists and these could not deter brave and determined persons to retreat from their field.
Appreciating the programes and policies of the PDP, he said these had inspired him much and he decided to work for this Party in the State. He said that he intensively conducted tour of urban areas of the Jammu district to solicit support for the PDP and explain principles of this party to common masses.
