| Two militants killed in Kupwara | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | May 11 Jammu and Kashmir police and army gunned down two militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba in Kupwara district of North Kashmir, here on Sunday. According to SSP Kupwara, Vijay Kumar, acting on a specific information regarding the presence of militants in forest area of Garbar, Top of Dardsun Kralpora, in the frontier district of Kupwara, Police and 17 Dogra launched a joint operation. The operation culminated in a massive gunbattle between the militants and troops. Two militants were killed in ensuing encounter, they said adding, the identification of the slain militants was being ascertained. Meanwhile, a spokesman of Lashkar-e-Toiba, Dr Abdullah Gaznavi told a local news agency over phone that the encounter lasted for about twenty-four hours and at least six soldiers were killed. Paying tributes to the slain militants of behalf of Abdul Wahid Kashmiri, LeT chief, the spokesman said, "They fought like a brave solider and their sacrifice will not go waste". He further urged the people of Jammu and Kashmir should give "a befitting reply to the Indian occupied forces and its agents by boycotting ensuing assembly elections in the state". |
