| Rich tributes paid to 1857 martyrs at JMC | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | May 11 Rich tributes were paid to the martyrs of 1857 mutiny at a function “Pranama Anjali” organized here this evening. Prof Chaman Lal Gupta, Ex-Union Minister, Mayor JMC, Mr Kavinder Gupta, Commissioner JMC, Mr Jeet Lal Gupta, Joint Commissioner JMC, Mr J.S Tandon Brig Suchet Singh, Joint Director Information, Mr S.K Sharma, corporators and prominent citizens were present on the occasion. During the Pranama Anjali sacrifices of the 1857 martyrs were remembered with great hanour and respect while 2-minutes silence was observed at 6.57 pm sharp. Speaking on the occasion, the major recalled the efforts of the Gallant warriors who laid down their lives to give freedom to the nation and safeguard the boundaries of Mother India. He said during the war for freedom about 4 lakh people sacrificed their lives as 4 crore were involved in the freedom struggle. He said that as a number of books have been published to give real picture of the war freedom struggle. Parents should educate their children about the same. He said that people from all caste, creed and religion joined the freedom movement led by Bahadurshah Zaffar, the last Mughal emperor who played key role. On the occasion, he paid tributes to all the Swatantar Sainani including Rana Beni, Madho Singh, Mangal Pandey, Nana Sahib Peshwa, Rango Bapu Ji. Prof Chaman Lal Gupta said that during freedom movement two signals of Roti and Rose Flower were given to the soldiers. He said that the sentiments of Hindus and Muslims were exploited on religion movement got united and move forward towards success, he added. He stressed for awareness among children to build strong nation. Commissioner JMC said that martyrs of freedom struggle would be shocked to see condition of today’s India divided on castes and boundary line. He said sprit of patriotism should be awakened in every Indian’s heart and also need of the hour is to ignite the same in children. Janak Raj Gupta lauded the decision of Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad for enhancing war martyrs relief and recognition to those who rendered yeomen services during war and while guarding the borders by enhancing their remuneration from petty Rs 2000 to Rs 1.25 lakh which was ignored from last so many years. |
