| Textile Park for Srinagar on anvil: Jora | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | May 11 The Central Government is contemplating to establish textile parks throughout the country at an estimated cost of Rs 40 crore each textile park. One such is being established at Srinagar that would help the weaver, artisans and other people linked with the job to boost the skill and ensure prosperity of the community. This was stated by Minister for Industries and Commerce Nawang Rigzin Jora at a simple but impressive function organized by Directorate of Handloom for distribution of cheques worth Rs 4.52 lakh as reimbursement of one time special rebate to the Apex Marketing Society, here today.. Saying that handloom sector has a great potential in the state Jora maintained that the sector has prime position in the state's economy, adding that it could be promoted in far-flung areas of the state. Giving resume of the progress registered by the department, he said that Handloom sector has produced Rs 200 crore products during last fiscal with sound marketing facility and added that several steps have been taken to promote the sector. To improve the design and quality of the handloom products, Indian Institute of Carpet has been established at Bagh-i-Ali Mardan Khan for training the artisans, he added. Giving thrust on quality products, Jora asked the artisans not to compromise on quality as these products have much demand in the world market. He said that some areas would be identified for production of Kani Shawls and Pashmina products specifically. He said that 10 clusters have been identified, of these six stand approved by the government for which Rs 60 lakh would be spent within three years. Stressing youth to come forward for taking benefit of various handloom schemes, Jora said that government has launched several programs for youth to make them self-reliant and self-sufficient. Secretary Industries and Commerce Dr. Pawan Kotwal, and Director Handloom Nirmal Sharma also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the activities of the department. |
